The 2014 B-Class Electric Drive

Boasting zero emissions, bold aesthetics, feisty performance and uncompromising comfort, the B-Class Electric Drive is poised to move you — not to mention an entire industry — forward. And this is your invitation to come along for the ride.
It all begins with “Energy Space,” a compact compartment beneath the vehicle’s floor that stores an advanced lithium-ion battery, resulting in a more spacious cabin and a lower center of gravity for more responsive handling. Coupled with an electric motor that can deliver 228 lb-ft of torque from a standstill, Energy Space helps ensure that within city limits you’re as quick around corners as you are off the line.*
But the open road is where the B-Class ED’s exceptional range truly asserts itself. Even at a top speed of 100 mph, for example, you can travel about 115 local emission-free miles before needing to power up. Its drive system even helps to prolong your charge on the go, automatically converting kinetic energy to electric current during deceleration and braking. And when it’s finally time for a pit stop, the B-Class ED’s lithium-ion battery requires less than two hours to charge up to a level sufficient for 60 more miles.
No matter where you’re headed, a cutting-edge technology suite ensures that you’ll always be fully connected — even if you’re not in the B-Class Electric Drive’s well-appointed interior. Before you head out, you can check your current charge status and see your range on an interactive map via tablet, computer or smartphone. Or you can simply set a start time for your journey and the vehicle’s intelligent charging system will takes care of the rest. In other words, your ride will be ready when you are.
So the only question is: are you?
At Mercedes-Benz, we understand that sustainability is about much more than a mpg figure. That’s why we take a holistic approach toward manufacturing that considers the product lifecycle from start to finish. Our philosophy on Sustainable Mobility extends to our entire fleet, from our BlueTEC Clean Diesel models, to our pioneering work in hydrogen fuel-cell technology, to the fastest electric vehicle on the planet—the SLS AMG Electric Drive.
